Finding the Right Choir for You

Our event at Harrogate Flower show

There is something magical about singing in a choir. It is not just about hitting the right notes, it is about friendship, laughter and the kind of joy that lingers long after the music stops. But with so many different choirs out there, finding the one that feels like home can take a little exploring. It's so important to find the right choir for you!

Some choirs focus on a single style such as classical, jazz or gospel. Others keep things lighthearted, singing karaoke style for the pure fun of it. Then there are choirs that rehearse like theatre companies, preparing for polished performances. The truth is, every choir has its own heartbeat and it is all about finding the rhythm that matches your own.

At All For One Choir, our heartbeat is warm, welcoming and wonderfully eclectic. Our rehearsals are filled with laughter one moment and goosebumps the next. We have been known to laugh until tears roll down our cheeks and other times to fall silent, overcome by the emotion of a song that touched something deep inside. Singing together is therapy in disguise, it heals, uplifts and connects.

What makes us different is our love of harmony. We sing in three and four part harmony, with arrangements simple enough for everyone to join but powerful enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. There is a special moment when the parts lock together, that perfect blend of voices where you can feel the music vibrating in your chest. It is a moment of pure magic. And the best part is that we have never met anyone who could not learn to sing in harmony. With gentle teaching and encouragement, every voice finds its place.

Performances are part of our journey too, but never with pressure. There are always plenty of keen singers eager for the stage, so no one ever feels pushed. Some people thrive in the spotlight, others simply enjoy the weekly joy of singing. Both are celebrated equally, because it is about choice, not expectation.

And when our smaller choirs unite to become one mighty super choir, the feeling is indescribable. Standing among hundreds of voices, hearing harmonies soar and swell around you, there is a rush of belonging that words can barely capture. For many, it is life changing.

Away from the bright lights, the heartbeat of our choir is simple. People coming together to sing, to feel good and to belong. Science will tell you singing lowers stress and boosts wellbeing, but the truth is, you can see it for yourself in the glowing faces, the hugs after rehearsal, and the lump in the throat when a lyric hits home.

Every choir is different. Some may suit you, others will not. But when you find the right one, you will know. Because it will not just sound right, it will feel like home.
